Even more smokes and mirrors from Roseman this time in regards to Lane Johnson who many have suddenly put down as being an Eagle with tonight’s fourth pick. He’s a great Offensive Lineman and had two great seasons with the Sooners, but will Chip really pass on the likes of Eric Fisher (though looks like he’s going to be a Chief), Joeckel, Jordan or Ansah depending who falls?
The last few weeks the Eagles organisation has made a number of visits to Lane, since Wednesday they have kept in contact over the phone as well making sure he realises that the Eagles have a good amount of interest in him. He had a great 40yard dash at the combine and vertical leap.
Then again is this some well timed ruse, to get extra first rounders and force someone to trade up, i’m more inclined to go with this option. O-Line all-be-it a need is not a necessity right now, not with the 1st round pick that we have.
You could say OLB isn’t either, but many will disagree myself included. Who would want Lane? As soon as the fifth pick as Detroit would love Lane, along with the Chargers at pick 12. An extra 3rd or 2nd rounder for them to move up would be a bargain and give us extra picks in a draft thick with starting talent.
I haven’t a clue what Chip is planning tonight, many say that he’s going to make a unique if not strange pick as that’s how he rolls. I disagree, he will make a pick that best fits the Eagles needs as judged by the talent that remains on his draft board.
I would love a peek at his draft board and a look inside the Eagles war room tonight, rest assured tonight is going to make for a fun filled evening.
A good point raised by Tommy Lawlor over at IgglesBlitz is that despite Chip recruiting and showing interest in E.J Manuel, Geno Smith, Star and keeping in touch with Dion Jordan he never recruited Lane so doesn’t know him quite as well. Another reason not to expect Lane’s name to be called at pick 4.
